About Duchess

My name is Demetra Rowan. My mother honored me with the nickname Duchess when I was born (it was my aunt's name). I am proudly from Atlanta, Georgia. I started sewing over 40 years ago.  I was blessed to design and construct clothing since I could not find clothes that fit (tall).   My Saturday and Sunday afternoons were spent either at the theater,  watching old movies on TV, or reading classic novels, where I fell in love with the glamorous gowns of Grace Kelly, Ginger Rogers, Betty Davis and so many others. I loved elegance of the 1940's-1950's and my style reflects that elegance.   I started making jewelry 20 years ago, because I could not find designs that matched my personality or my custom gowns. GOD blessed me with these wonderful talents and I enjoy sharing them with others by making their vision come to life.  My first evening gown was a re-design for a Ms. Georgia contestant in the early 1980's, since then, I have continued to refine my skills in construction and design by taking extensive training from industry professionals.  This knowledge is displayed in the elegant timeless designs and detailed construction of my gowns/jewelry.  I am passing this knowledge on to the next generation by teaching classes to kids and seniors citizens (some have started a business).  I look forward to working with you on your own vision.
